Summary
This chapter introduced entrepreneurship and people management issues in small
and medium-sized enterprises. This remains an inadequately researched area in HRM terms
despite its importance to job creation and national economies. There is a fair amount of
knowledge about individual entrepreneurs and their aspirations but comparatively little
'hard evidence' about many aspects of the small firm. SMEs come in a
wide range of sizes and structures. These differences introduce
complexities into any understanding of their HR procedures. However, recent
research supports the view that introduction of formal human resource processes increases with organizational size.
