Human Resources Firm Ceridian Canada to Establish Centre of Excellence on Prince Edward Island

January 30 2007 - The Honourable Pat Binns, Premier of Prince Edward Island, today announced another positive employment and investment development in the growing financial and business services sector on Prince Edward Island which will create 100 new jobs.

Ceridian Canada, a leading human resources services company, will establish a centre of excellence on Prince Edward Island to meet its growing customer requirements for talent acquisition, payroll and other human resources services. The new centre will be established in Charlottetown in May 2007. Ceridian will hire 40 employees during its first year and ramp up to 100 people within its first three years of operation.

"More and more, firms such as Ceridian are recognizing how attractive Prince Edward Island is as an investment location," said Premier Binns. "The arrival of Ceridian on Prince Edward Island will be a boost for our growing financial and business services sector. I am very pleased to welcome Ceridian Canada to the province."

"Ceridian's PEI centre will be a showcase for our talent acquisition practice as well as a broad range of our HR professional services," said Dave MacKay, Ceridian's chief operating officer. "The province offers all the attributes we were looking for in expanding our business - an excellent social, economic and technological infrastructure, a well-educated workforce, and a business-friendly environment."

Ceridian will be eligible to access the province's Innovation and Development Tax Credit Program (IDTC). As a value-added component of the announcement, Ceridian and the province of Prince Edward Island will enter into an agreement to provide enhanced training and skills development services for members of the provincial public service. This training will be in addition to the training and development funds currently available to public employees.

"We see this partnership with the PEI government as a landmark deal for us as it represents our first major contract with a Canadian provincial government. Ceridian looks forward to playing an active role in Island life, building strong relationships within the PEI community, and investing in its business, social and human infrastructure," noted Mr. MacKay.

"As a government, we are always on the lookout for new business opportunities that complement our business advantages here on Prince Edward Island, and Ceridian fits that bill. Investment tools like the Progressive Tax Rebate Program are helping new and existing businesses grow opportunities right here on Prince Edward Island," said Development and Technology Minister Mike Currie.
