New Service Offering Lessens Impact of Aging Workforce
May 18 2007 - Electric and water utilities are faced with the prospect of losing up to 60 percent of their top management and other key workers to retirement by 2010. To help address this challenge, Black & Veatch’s Enterprise Management Solutions consulting division (EMS) announced today at the Edison Electric Institute’s Annual Convention that it is partnering with executive recruiting firm Mycoff, Fry & Prouse in offering a Management Succession Planning Service.
"Black & Veatch’s Management Succession Planning solution solves both immediate needs for leadership or technical expertise and addresses longer-term needs for permanent successors for retiring staff," said Tom Resh, Solution-Set Lead for Black & Veatch’s Management Succession Planning Service. "The Mycoff organization, which has an ‘inventory’ of hundreds of retired, senior utility executives, is able to identify and locate individuals for short-term and temporary assignments, while we work with clients to develop a strategic human resources plan."
For example, Black & Veatch was able to successfully assist a California utility in resolving its immediate need for a principal engineer through this unique service and is in the process of developing a comprehensive succession plan for the utility.
"The client’s initial recruitment efforts were unsuccessful in filling this key role," said Carl Mycoff, President, Mycoff, Fry & Prouse. "Working with Black & Veatch, we were able to identify a former electric utility engineering executive to immediately fill this position and assist in training less experienced existing staff."
The Management Succession Planning Service provides clients with:
- Management succession review and strategic human resources planning services
- The industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of recently retired executives from which to choose a candidate
- No burdensome salary and benefits administration associated with contract employees
- Full access to Black & Veatch’s knowledge and resources
- Multiple hiring options such as a fixed-time contract, an open-ended contract, retaining the individual for permanent placement, or scheduling a series of different managers as part of a mentoring program.
